his family to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1930. Things were tough. There was no
employment to be had so he worked doing painting, cement work, and odd jobs.
He also worked for the government on WPA (Workers Progress Association) hat had
been initiated by Pres. Roosevelt. One day, while he was irrigating in he
fields, a man stopped to talk with him and he was hired by the University of
Utah to fire the hugh furnace boilers there. He always felt it was an answer
to prayer. He had many church callings, went on a stake mission and was High
Priest Group Leader of Cannon Stake in Salt Lake when he died of heart failure
in the morning on a Tuesday. There were so many people at his funeral, he
chapel and cultural hall were filled and people were standing in the back and
in the foyers. Stake Pres. Dean Lee spoke and Karen Koller Hixson, Wilf's
daughter, gave a wonderful tribute to her grandfather. He had said, the Lord
would not allow him to get rich because He wanted to keep him humble. Humble
he was, and VERY dear.
