Anne Constable, daughter of Francis Constable of England, was baptized in London, 1622. Her parents died when she was young, resulting in her becoming a ward of Sir John Thorogood, a personal attendant of King Charles I. At the age of 17, Anne accompanied Sir Francis Wyatt and Richard Lee on an ocean voyage to Jamestown, 1639. She married Richard Lee, maybe in the new brick church at Jamestown, VA, 1641. Richard and Anne produced ten children, including two sets of twins. Eight of the children survived. Richard and Anne moved several times, living in rude wooden cabins set in clearings near the water. While young, they traded with the Indians for fur and skins. In maturity, they became owners of plantations and commercial trading businesses.
The Lee family moved to England, Feb 1661. Anne handled family affairs while Richard traveled to VA on business. Richard died at DIVIDING CREEK PLANTATION, Northumberland Co., VA when Anne was at the age of about 42 years. She inherited STRATFORD on the Potomac, MOCKS NECK and servants from her husband, Richard Lee, Sr. In accordance with he spirit of Richard's will, Anne returned to the DIVIDING CREEK PLANTATION and finished raising their younger children. She married a second time to Edmund Lisbro, 1666. During her lifetime, Anne resided in many places: England, 1622-39; Jamestown, 1639-42; TINDALL'S CREEK, 1642-44; NEW POQUOSON, 1644-53; PARADISE, 1653-56; DIVIDING CREEK, 1656-61; STRATFORD-LANGTON, 1661-64; DIVIDING CREEK PLANTATION, 1664-67 where she was interred in the garden 400 feet southwest of her home. he garden became COBBS HALL BURYING GROUND.
