James Goodwin, came to Australia from Wales UK in 1852-53 on the sailing ship Bassorah Bay,with his wife Jane,nee Craig. They farmed at Paramatta just out of Sydney. James brother Edward was with him as they all came out on the same ship. Edward married Jane sister Margaret Craig.
In 1859 James and Edward Goodwin with their wifes came to New Zealand and landed at Lyttelton.They had brought 1240 acres of land at Pigeon Bay on Banks Peninsula,South Island. James and Jane with their children left Pigeon Bay in 1874 after farming 25 years with his brother Edward Goodwin. James sold his share to Edward. James and Jane came to Midhurst, aranaki to farm. James and Jane owned three farms in their lifes around Midhurst. James died in 1889 and is buried in theold Midhurst cemetery.Jane is also buried there and there is no headstone on the graves. Just the names; J & J GOODWIN in front of the grave.
