WILL OF MARY DAWSON, CHESTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
In the name of God amen. I, Mary Dawson, widow and relict of Thomas Dawson, late of West Cain in Chester County, yeoman, deceased, being very weak in body but of sound and disposing mind do make this my last will and testament.
In the first place, it is my will that all my just debts, if any such there be, and funeral charges be paid.
I give and bequeath to the Rev. Thomas Barton the sum of twelve pounds, and the sum of eight pounds to Thomas Dawson my son for the use and benefit of the Church of St. John's at Peaque and the further sum of ten pounds to and for the use and support of the poor of the township of West Cain to be paid by my son Thomas. I bequeath to my son Isaac Dawson the sum of twenty pounds to and for schooling his children. To my granddaughter Rachel Park the sum of ten pounds. To my daughter Ann Berwick, the sum of ten pounds. To my granddaughter Mary wife of William Mallis the sum of ten pounds. To my granddaughter Mary Montgomery, now Hughes, the sum of seven pounds. To my grandson Jacob Dawson the sum of seven pounds. To my grandson Thomas Dawson the sum of five shillings sterling money. Five shillings to my daughter Fortune and five shillings each sterling to Mary and Sarah, daughters of my son David Dawson, deceased. And to my son Thomas Dawson I bequeath two hundred pounds and to his daughter Mary the sum of ten pounds with my bedstead, bed and bedding appraised to be six pounds six shillings and to my son Thomas Dawson's wife, Margaret, I bequeath my looking glass. I also bequeath to my son Isaac aforesaid one walnut chest being the largest, table and chairs with a bed and bedding upstairs, a brass ladle and candlestick; and a brass pan I give and bequeath to my son Thomas aforesaid together with a brass candlestick and ladle. I bequeath to my grandson David Dawson, who was prisoner in France, the sum of five pounds. All the residue of my estate I bequeath to my said son Thomas Dawson whom I constitute and appoint to be my sole executor of this my last will and testament revoking and disanuling all former wills and testaments by me made in testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal the fourth day of February, one thousand seven hundred and sixty nine.
Signed sealed published and declared by this said Mary Dawson as her last will and testament in the presence of us who have hereunto set our hands at her request as witnesses. The words now Hughes and Sterling first interlined near the middle of the I page. Witnesses:
