Detweiler Anna [Female] b. 1871 Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA - d. 09 JUN 1939 Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas, USA

Anna Detweiler was the daughter of Henry and Mary Detweiler. She was born in Illinois in 1871 and came to Kansas with her parents as a child. She married Walter G. Hawkins, February 11, 1892. They had six children, three of whom died in childhood. On July 9, 1903, her husband, Walter, shot and killed himself after his crops failed in a flood of Cottenwood Creek. Anna was pregnant at the time and lost the baby. Shortly after, her infant son, Walter G., died at age 4 months. The stress was too much for Anna and she went into a severe depression and was committed to an instution in Topeka. Her three remaining children
were sent to different relatives to be cared for. Anna died, in Topeka,
June 9, 1939 at the age of 68. She is buried in Shoklee Cemetary which is about a half of a mile from where her parents lived.
