William was the first son born to John Henry and mary Jane hurt. He was born while they still lived iv Virginia, however they left for Missouri shorly after his arrival. In 1921, William lived in McPhearson, Kansas. In 1926, William lived in Tampa, Kansas. He married Sally. They had 4 children, Clara, Howard, Goedy, Lola. In a photograph taken around the turn of the century in a San Francisco studio (Imperial Studios, 724 Market St. S.F.) he was a very handsome man with dark brown hair and a handlebar mustache. He was the administrator appointed to Walter G.'s estate after his brother shot himself. He handled the sale of Walter and Anna's home. On the death certificate of his father, John Henry, William was able to give John's father's name (Fountain) but not his birthplace or the name of his grandmother or any information on her. (Celine was his granmother and she died about 1852). It is unusual that William was not informed about the family members before him. Claude W. Hawkins, John H,'s grandson also said that John spoke very little about his family or life in Virginia.
