Baker Mary Simon [Female] b. APR 1859 - d. 15 SEP 1903 In family cemetary at Baker homeplace

[wwspiers-erickson.GED]

Mary Simon Baker, Minnie's mother, was the oldest of 5 children. Mary's mother died sometime between the time Mary was 11 and 21 (according to cencus information). She kept house and took care of her brothers. The 1870 Cencus shows she attended school. Sometime between the age of 18 and 20 her lodest brother, John Perry Baker, evidently took charge of running the household and farm. After John Perry Baker and Charlie R. Baker ( I do not yet know when Archibald died), she married Solon Baker. The marriage took place 3 years after Charlie's death. Solon and Mary were married on July 21, 1894 in the Little River Township by R. C. Mitchell. The Marriage Register cites 1895. However, Minnie Baker Lockleair said July 21, 1894. The 1870 Cencus, taken while Mary's mother was living (mothers usually know), was taken August 20, 1870 and shows her age as 11. Therfore her birthday would be 1859. When she married an July 21, she had already celebrated her birthday. The Marriage Register listed her age at 35. The 1900 Cencus shows her birthday as April 1859.

1894 is the correct year. She died September 15, 1903 when Minnie was only 8 years old. She was buried in the family cemetary at the homeplace. The land that had been left to her through John P. Baker's (Mary's brother) will was left to Solon Baker his lifetime. Will was dated October 21, 1902. Probated September 14, 1903. After Solon's death, It was to go to Minnie Ada Baker. Her will began "IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN!" Mary died at the age of 44 of tuberculosis.
