John and Priscilla sailed to the United States in 1850. It is reported that their first born died at sea. They settled near Rochester, New York, where they lived for about seven years. John's obituary in the Clear Lake paper states that he arrived in America with only a sovereign in his pocket, and he died possessed of considerable means. In 1857 the family moved to Dane County, Wisconsin where they lived on a farm near Stoughton. In 1887 John and Priscilla bought a farm near Parker, South Dakoka. Apparently their son, John Oliver and his wife, Anna (McAvoy0 moved to Parker at the same time and lived with them. The farm ws sold in November 1892 to Henry Bemelman after which John and Priscilla moved to Clear Lake, Iowa where John died in 1895. In 1901 Priscilla married John Hern, but he died in 1904. The last few years of her life, Priscilla was an invalid and confined to her room where she lived with her daughter for the last 8 years. She remained cheerful and busy with her needle, she loved flowers and planted them whereever she lived.
