On Elizabeth`s birth entry her mother Matilda McCulloch (nee Caralton or Carlton) wrote that Charles McCulloch, Matilda`s husband, was not the father of Elizabeth as she had not seen Charles for 5 years. It is likely that James Watson was on the scene at this time and he was perhaps the father of Elizabeth, David and William. In 1871 Census Matilda is living at Guns Close, Overgate with her sons David and William but under the McCulloch name. In 1881 Census she is living with James Watson her sons David and William and Robert Crooks but all were using the Watson surname.
