Passed with distinction exam for FreeNormal Seminary(Scotlands first eachers training College,built in 1836 and founded by David Stow)
The condition she was excepted was that they took her sister Elizabeth.
Both passed out as teachers in 1901.They took classes at the Glasgow School of Art. Lizzie with Jessie Newbery /Art Needlework and Martha classes in drawing - D certificate.
Both taught at Whifflet Primary School
Martha until her marriage in 1910
Lizzie left to go to South Africa with her uncle- John Spiers
Martha Spittal was married in Gartsherrie Church , Coatbridge
The reception was held in THE TOWN HALL,Coatbridge
