Matilda was born on February 11, 1793. She married Jacob Washington White on December 17, 1812. They were married 17 years when her husband passed away. She continued on as a single parent for six years . In the 1830 census she is listed as the head of the household, with 9 children, seven slaves, and a female age 40-50 years old living with her.
She married William Thaxton on November 18, 1835. She out lived William too. She spent her last years living with her daughter, Mary Starr Nimmo. Matilda died on March 10, 1876, at the home of Mary Starr. She is buried in the Starr family cemetary.
