OBITUARY - Following a lengthy illness, the last three months of which he spent in hospital, Mr. Herbert Sims passed away, November 29th, in his 80th year.
Mr. Sims was born in England and came to Canada at the age of 21 years, making his home in Stisted Township. He took up lumbering and was with Golden and Waller, the Standard Chemical Company and Mailen Limited, besides operating for himself. In 1915 he married Lina Spiers, who is left with one son, Norman, of Utterson, and four granddaughters.
A residence was built at Martin's Siding, where Mr. and Mrs. Sims built a summer resort at Simoleon Beach, which later was sold to Camp Winnibagoe, a camp for children. He worked for the camp for 25 years as maintenance man, and until it was sold to Camp Ramah, with whom he continued for one year. Five years ago, Mr. Sims built a residence in Macaulay Township, just north of Bracebridge, where the family home was established.
The funeral took place on Saturday last, with service at the chapel of the Reynolds' Funeral Home. Rev. D.A.C. Muir conducted the service and interment was made in St. Thomas' cemetery. The bearers were all former employees: John Quinn, Monty Forth, Howard Biltz, Fred Shortt, William Patterson and Stanley Hammell.
Mr. Sims was well known in the northern part of the district and in Bracebridge, and leaves many friends who will remember him as a kindly, considerate gentleman and helpful friend.
