Mary Spiers Lee - 1907Mary Elizabeth Spiers was listed as living with her parents at age 14 in the 1871 Census for Cumberland Township, Russell County, Ontario. The wording of her father's obituary (see George Spiers, Sr.) would indicate that she moved to Muskoka district with her parents and eleven brothers and sisters. Her whereabouts after this time is not known until she appears in the 1881 Census for Matchedash and Orillia where she is listed as Marey E. Fetterly, wife of James Allan Fetterly. She is next listed in the 1891 Census for the Town of Orillia as the wife of Hugh Lee along with the following children: Eliza (12), Samuel (10), Emily (8), Rebecca (6), Hugh (4), Hannah (2) and Arthur (4 months). As head of the family, Hugh Lee was listed as a labourer, age 44, born in Scotland.
A birth registration for Arthur Lee (January 7, 1891 - Orillia) gives his parents names as Hugh Lee and (Mary) Elizabeth Fetterly. It would therefore appear that Eliza, George and Emily were Mary's children by her first marriage since Rebecca had a surname Lee registered in her marriage to Daniel McDonald.
Mary's third marriage to Tom Duncan has been documented.
