Douglas Alexander (Sandy) Forbes came to St. Joseph Island as a teacher and taught for one year at the I line school. At this time he boarded at the Duggan home.
One of his pupils that year was Sarah Jane McArthur. After this year, he married Sarah and raised a family of 8 children.
Douglas was an engineer at the Stone Lumber Company factory and was also clerk of Hilton Twp. for several years.
His mother May Forbes was also a teacher on St. Joe. She taught at the the stone school house and boarded at the Hamilton home on the U line.
Her sister was also a teacher at this time (Belle McNevin) at the W Line school.
