OBITUARY - Bertha Jane Cook, of Main Street, Huntsville, died July 15 at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital after an illness of one year. Daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Spiers of Etwell, she was born June 14, 1884, and was married July 8, 1903, at Etwell to Walter Harvey Cook, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Cook of Lancelot.

She was a member of the Muskoka Rebekah Lodge, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and for many years a member of the Huntsville Womens Institution. In addition to her husband, surviving is her daughter Dorothy (Mrs. Stan Snowden) of Huntsville and Bernice (Mrs. Cecil Hicks) of Toronto; a son Clifford, of Grimsby; a brother, Wilson Spiers of Huntsville; a sister, Effie (Mrs. John Reynolds) of Huntsville, and 7 grandchildren.

Service at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church was conducted by Rev. Doig, secretary for the Home Missions of the Presbyterian Church of Canada. Interrment was in Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Allan Spiers, Joseph Spiers, Edward Scott, Bill Bradford, Dennis Hicks and David Hicks.


OBITUARY - The death of Walter Harvey Cook, beloved husband of the late Bertha Jane Spiers, occurred at the Huntsville & District Memorial Hospital on January 19, 1974. Mr. Cook, who resided at 116 Main Street West, passed away after an illness of one month. He was in his 96th year.

The deceased was born on May 8, 1878 at Severn Bridge, Ontario, the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Cook of Allensville. He first came to this district as a small boy, and received his education at Allensville. The late Mr. Cook was married on July 8, 1903 at Etwell to the late Bertha Jane Spiers. He was employed as a bushman for many years. He also farmed for many years and was a greenskeeper for the golf course at Bigwin Inn. Mr. Cook was a member of the Orange Lodge at Orrville.

Left to mourn his passing are two daughters; Dorothy (Mrs. Stan Snowden) of Huntsville, and Bernice (Mrs. Cecil Hicks) of Toronto, and one son, Clifford of Grimsby. He was predeceased by one son, Jack, on August 17, 1949. There are seven grndchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral Service at the Addison Funeral Chapel on January 21st was followed by interment in Hutcheson Memorial Vault. Burial will follow in the spring at Hutcheson Memorial Cemetery.
