Thomas Spiers, Jr. and Eva Harper Spiers
OBITUARY - In Toronto, after a week's illness from pneumonia, Thomas Spiers, Parkdale merchant, who spent the greater part of his life on a farm near Huntsville, died at his home at 112 Ossington Ave in his 69th year. During the last 11 years he has been connected with the Adanac Chain Stores (Adanac = Canada spelled backwards) and was the oldest member. He was born in Renfrew Township, 10 miles from Ottawa, and when a boy came with his parents to Muskoka among the early settlers. In politics he was a Conservative.
The service was conducted by the Rev. D.A. French, of the Wesley United church, at Norman Craig's Funeral Parlors at 1255 Queen St. West, Toronto, and was well represented by the Parkdale business men and associates. The body was brought to Huntsville and was laid to rest in the family plot in Madill's Cemetery, the Rev. C.C. Wellerman officiating. Surviving are his aged mother, Mrs. Lydia Spiers, his widow, two sons, Nelson, Red Lake, Ont., Otto, South Porcupine, six daughters and seven grandchildren.
The pallbearers were life-long friends of the deceased: Mr. Jack Mawhinney, Mr. Jack Benson, Mr. Geo. Bradley, Mr. Percy Smith and Mr. Ernest Head.
