THE HUNTSVILLE FORESTER
December 18, 1924
Mr. George Wallington, esteemed citizen of Huntsville for the past 6 years, and for many previous years a resident of Stisted Township, passed away on Monday last after an illness covering the past two years, during which time he suffered a great deal. Mr. Wallington's health had not been robust since he left the farm about six years ago. The funeral took place from his late residence, with interment late Wednesday afternoon at St. Andrews Cemetery. Reverend F. Berner officiated. Pallbearers were his three sons, Louis and Charles of Rochester, New York, and Fred of St. Catherines, and Charles Lewis, Percy Smith and his brother, James Wallington of St. Catherines.
The late Mr. Wallington was a native born Canadian, having first seen the light of Warwick, in Lambton County, 72 years ago. His father, the late James Wallington, was a native of England, coming to Canada when he was very young. When George was a young lad of 18 years, his family moved to Stisted Township, so that his 54 years residence in this section entitles him to be classed among our earliest pioneers. Indeed, Huntsville at that time consisted of but a few log buildings reached by trail through the bush.
After several years on the farm he moved into Huntsville to provide more adequate facilities for the education of his children, and later returned to the farm at Etwell, finally retiring 6 years ago. He was one of a family of twelve children: among the surviving members: Mrs. Jas. Cain of Huntsville; James, of St. Catherines; Mrs. Jas. Baskerville of Kitchener; Charles, of Tisdale, Saskatchewan.; Mrs. Jas. Anderson of St. Catherines and Mrs. Jas. Boyce of Nova Scotia.
He leaves besides his widow, 3 sons and 2 daughters: Charles H. and Louis of Rochester, N.Y., Fred of St. Catherines, Mrs. J. G. Johnston of Parry Sound and Mrs. R.E. Tuttle of Springfield, Ohio.
Deceased was an estimable citizen, highly respected and esteemed by all who knew him, his friends and acquaintances were many. His fine surviving family is a living testimony to his splendid qualities as a father and a chum.
