Jane (Huggard) Cook
OBITUARY - The death occurred at The Pines on Wednesday, June 20th, of a long-time resident, Mrs. Alvin Cook. She was 86 years of age.
Jane Harriet Huggard was born in Windermere in 1887, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Huggard. She married William Alvin Cook on April 13, 1911 in New Liskeard, and with him has lived at various points in north Ontario and in Muskoka. The family came to Bracebridge many years ago, and since the end of the war have made their home at 227 James Street. Mr. Cook died in 1952. Mrs. Cook has been living at The Pines for two years.
Mrs. Cook leaves one daughter, Mrs. David Taylor (Nettie), of Sudbury. She was a devoted and much-loved mother of her stepchildren from Mr. Cook's first marriage - Claude, of Elk Lake (deceased); Gerald, of New Liskeard; Mrs. N. Gouldie (Barbara), of Dwight; Mrs. Bert Francy (Maudie), of Cooksville, and James, in British Columbia.
Mrs. Cook is survived by three brothers, Bert Huggard of Bracebridge, Edward Huggard, of Windsor, and Reg Huggard of British Columbia; and by sisters, Mrs. George Kay (Vada), of Bracebridge, Mrs. Bert Keown (Sadie), of Dwight, and Mrs. George MacMillan (Viola), of Toronto. There are six grandchildren, Gerald, Kenneth, Douglas, Donald, and Phillip Taylor, and Joyce McDonald all from the Sudbury area, and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was conducted by Lt. George King, of the Salvation Army, at Reynold's Funeral Home on Saturday, June 23rd. Grandsons Ken, Doug, Don and Phil Taylor, and Clarence and Bill Taylor, of Bracebridge, were pallbearers. Interment was at St. Thomas' Cemetery.
