OBITUARY - The Orangeville community lost an esteemed citizen in the passing on Wednesday, January 12, 1949, of George Rawn. Mr. Rawn had suffered a seizure over a year ago from which he only partially recovered. Failing all year in general health, he succumbed after being bedfast for ten days.
Mr. Rawn was born on Lot 36, Con. 1, Albion, seventy years ago. He was the youngest son of the late Thomas Rawn and Elizabeth Duke. He lived his entire life, with the exception of the last four years, on the home farm. With failing health he was obliged to give up active farming and moved to Orangeville four and a half years ago. He was a former member and elder of Mono Mills and First Avenue United Churches and at the time of his demise a member and honourary elder of Westminster United Church. Mr. Rawn was a faithful servant of the Church, eager to help in all its endeavours. A quiet man with a keen sense of humour, he was quick to make friends and those who knew him found in him a genuine friend and neighbour.
He is survived by his wife, the former Pearl Bray of Huntsville; three daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Carson Patterson), Caledon East, Myrtle of Orangeville, and Georgina (Mrs. Bruce Metcalf), St. Catharines; one brother, Samuel, of Mono; and two grandsons, Robert Patterson and Ronald Metcalf. Four brothers and three sisters predeceased him. The funeral service was conducted at his home on Faulkner Street on Saturday afternoon, January 15th. Owing to the icy conditions of the roads, the graveside service was conducted at Forest Lawn Mortuary, with burial later that day in Caledon East cemetery.
