According to Earl Bowers, Gilie Bowers was a first cousin of his grandfather, Giles Bowers. Gilie killed a negro and came to Texas. He crossed the Sabine River to be free in Texas. Gilie lived at Woods Post Office and "made" congressman Martin Dies' speeches (1933-34-35).
