Hugh Graham Ruthven was in the 2nd artillery South Carolina (Cannon) and killed near Charleston, South Carolina on December 25, 1863. This was exactly 10 years after his mothers death. His brother Cornelius was in that same civil war unit. On the 1850 census for Chesterfield Co, South Carolina Steerpen District we find Hugh G. living near or with his father Daniel. His Brother is listed after Hugh's wife making it probable that both are living at home. Hough's age is shown as 25. He is a teacher. He is shown as born in South Carolina. Hugh's wife is shown as Sarah age 21, also born South Carolina. Hugh may be buried at Swift Creek Baptist cemetery in
Darlington County South Carolina.
