Randles James [Male] b. 27 MAR 1768 Tennessee - d. 1816 Washington County, Virginia

Source
Title: Information compiled by Randall "Gene" Clack. Gene lists his sourcesas follows:

The following is a partial quote from page 43 and 44 of Grace Puryear's book, "Hollis Pioneers", James Randles was still in the prime of his life when he and his son, Jack, then 22 years old, went by wagon over into Washington County, Virginia, to the Salt Works to bring home a load of salt. This was a trip of more than 100 miles each way to get that commonly accepted but very essential item of everyday living for a man and animal.

When more than enough time had elapsed for the trip, Rhoda became very uneasy and set out, by horseback, with her youngest child a baby, to learn what was causing the delay. She traveled several days and finally met Jack bringing the wagon home. His father had taken sick at the salt works and lived only a few days. One legend has it that Jack was bringing his body home when Rhoda met him. If so, she must have ridden almost to the salt works before meeting Jack, as we know that James was buried in Washington County, Virginia, "near John Baker's". More likely burial took place near where death occurred and Jack was nearer home when he met his mother with the sad news.
