From the American Press of Sept. 30, 1940
Columbus G. Bilbo of Buna, Texas, only living grandson of Thomas Bilbo, a pioneer of Calcasieu Parish, was honored by members of the family Sunday afternoon with a reception at the family burying ground on the lake front near the old Bel Mill site.
Returning to the scenes of his childhood after an absence of about 60 years was a remarkable experience for Mr. Bilbo, who is 80 years of age and rather delicate in health.
He was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. L.L. Squires and was taken to see old familiar landmarks during the morning by Mr. Squires. The only spot that he said ``looked natural'' was Moss Bluff. Every other section of the city was changed beyond recognition.
Among the visits was a trip to the home of Isaac Bilbo, an old Negro servant whose forefathers were slaves in the Bilbo family. Isaac is 74, and was a servant in the home of the late Mr. and Mrs. John McNeese. He was given as a houseboy to Susan Bilbo McNeese when she married and
settled in Lake Charles.
The reception at the Bilbo Cemetery began about 2 p.m. and refreshments were served by Miss Katinka Ryan, Miss Marie Ryan, Mrs. Lorine S. MacKay and Mrs. Annie Wimberly.
