McNeese, John, of Lake Charles, was born in New York City, July 4, 1843, a
son of William and Mary (Beechum) McNeese, both natives of Scotland. His
mother died when he was an infant, and his father when he was 9 years of
age. He was reared at Baltimore, Md., by relatives. At the age of 18 he
enlisted in the Union army, in answer to the first call for volunteers. He
served to the close of the war, and then went to Texas, and located in
Menard county, where he merchandized, and served as county clerk, and about
1870 came to Louisiana. He had received a good literary education, and on
coming to Louisiana engaged in school teaching, and about 1885 graduated in
law from Tulane university, and was engaged in practicing law at Lake
Charles, when he was appointed superintendent of public schools in
Calcasieu parish, which position he held for many years, retiring about one
year before his death, which occurred June 2, 1914. His life work was that
of an educator, and he accomplished much for the cause of education. He
married Susan Bilbo, a daughter of William Bilbo, a pioneer of southwest
Louisiana. Unto the marriage were born 5 sons and 2 daughters. Of the
family, the second oldest is Oswald W. McNeese, adjutant-general of Louisiana.

WILLIAMS - On English Bayou near Lake Charles. Sunday, September 24, 1882, Isaac Williams, aged forty-six years. Mobile and Pascagoula please copy.

In the death of Mr Isaac Williams our community is deprived of a good citizen, and a loving wife and children of a kind and affectionate father.
Twice in the past six weeks death has invaded this household, taking there from father and oldest son, We deeply sympathize with the afflicted ones in this their sad bereavenment.

Note: Isaac was the husband of Martha Reeves, daughter of Isham and Nancy Ann Bilbo Reeves.

Flora Elain Reeves Musgrove,
94, died Friday, April 5, 2002,
in a Lake Charles hospital.

She was a native of Gillis and
a longtime resident of
Opelousas. She was a
homemaker. She had lived in
Lake Charles for two years. She
was a longtime member of the
Opelousas Garden Club. She
was a member of First Baptist
Church of Opelousas.

Survivors include one son, Cecil
Herbert Musgrove of Moss
Bluff; two brothers, James L.
Reeves and L.F. "Snubbie"
Reeves, both of Gillis; two
sisters, Mrs. Floye Grissom and
Mrs. Ruby Giliant, both of
Gillis; seven grandchildren; 17
great-grandchildren; and two
great-great-grandchildren.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.
Monday, April 8, in First Baptist
Church of Opelousas. Perry
Hubbs will officiate. Burial will
be in Magnolia Cemetery in
Ragley under the direction of
Sibille Funeral Home in
Opelousas. Visitation is 2-10
p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m.
Monday in the funeral home.
