After his marriage to Mary Randles in 1791, they moved to Wayne County, Kentucky. While in Kentucky, from 1792 to 1794, he served as a volunteer private in McGaughey's Company, Knox City Regiment, Hamilton District Military, south of the Ohio River.
Rawleigh was a Private in the War of 1812. He served in the Army under General Andrew Jackson in his famous campaign against the Indians, and was in the memorable battle of Tohopeka or Horse Shoe Bend, in 1814, which was a crushing defeat for the "Creeks".
This family moved back to eastern Tennessee. They owned a large farm in Sevier County, Tennessee, located in the fork of the French Broad and Pigeon rivers. Rawleigh later bought a tract of land in Rhea County, near Yellow Creek, where he spent the remainder of his life.
