.A. 1746 - From: Bristol Parish Register:
"William son of Richard & Constant Burge born March 23d 1746."
B. Dianne Burge Fogleman: Bob Burge are family researchers of this line as well as Douglas (Doug) W. Burge. Ivy states that oug's line is Drury, brother of Christopher and George Washington Burge. Drury's son, James Marion Burge, is both Doug and Bob's lines. Ivy supplied most of the following information. Ivy and Bob's address is TCEFILM1@@aol.com I do not have Doug's address.
1. William was born May 12, 1756, Amelia County, Va. probable son of Drury and Elizabeth Dunn Burge. (I question that this William was their son Drury and Elizabeth were married in 1763; this William was born in 1756. Possible that Drury had a previous marriage and this William was from that marriage.)
2. On Nov. 28, 1784, Amelia County, William married Martha Williamson, daughter of Lewellen/Lewelling/Lowell and Elizabeth Clark/Clack Williamson. Surety was Lewellen Williamson. (Note: Elizabeth Clark/Clack was a descendent of John Rolfe, whose second marriage in 1614 was to Matoaka Pocahontas.)
3. William was surety when his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Williamson, married Raines Cooke Nov. 20, 1784, Amelia County.
4. William was executor (along with William Hubbard and Robert Rakestraw) of his father's will Drury died between 1790-93.
5. William and Martha and their children were all born in Virginia but migrated to Louisiana and Mississippi.
6. Various records on William:
a. 5 March 1787 - Court Orders - Charlotte County, Va.., Book Seven, Page 55, 1786-1789: "Joshua Morris, Foreman, Hillary Moseley, Philip Goode, Cuthbreath Williamson, Moses Harrison, James Binen, James Hamlett, John Richardson, Philip King, John Fuqua, Julius Glazbrook, Thomas Scott, Henry Madison, John Phelps, Richard Gaines, Thomas Payne, Edward Elam and John Morris were sworn in as a Grand Jury. The following indictments for not putting up signboards were returned against the surveyor of the road responsible - not named:
At the fork of the road by Capt. Fletcher's
At the fork above Burges
By William Burges
At the fork by Ben Cooks
At the fork above the Court House
Below the Court House leading to Bouldin's Old Store
At Little Roan oake Church
At the fork above Mrs. Bedford's"
b. Nov. 5, 1793 - Court Orders - Charlotte County, Va.., Book Nine, Page 220 - 1792-1794: RULE JUDGMENTS: Allan Haddon, adm'r of Francis Haddon, Plaintiff vs William Burge, adm'r of Drury Burge and William Burge, def - on a judgment obtained 5th November 1793.

c. Jan. 2, 1802 - From Shepherd, Samuel. "The Statutes at Large of Virginia from October Session, 1792, to December Session 1806", inclusive, 3 vol. (New Series) Being a Continuation of Hening, New York; AMS Press, 1970. Reprinted from the edition of 1835, Richmond, Chapter 44:
"An ACT for refunding a sum of money to William Burge, administrator of Drury Burge, deceased, passed January 2, 1802"
Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the sum of one hundred and thirty-six dollars and twenty-nine cents, the surplus of a sum of money for which a tract of land in Charlotte county belonging to Drury Burge, was sold in the year one thousand seven hundred and ninety five, by the sheriff of the said county for the payment of arrears of taxes due from the said Burge, and which after remaining in the hands of the said sheriff more than six years, was at length wholly paid by him into the public treasury (except a small sum deducted for commissions,) shall be, and the same is hereby refunded to William Burge, administrator of the said Drury Burge, deceased; And to that end the auditor of public accounts shall be, and he is hereby authorized and required to issue to the said William Burge in person, or by attorney, a warrant on the treasurer for the said sum of one hundred and thirty six dollars and twenty-nine cents, to be paid by the treasurer out of any money in the public treasury.

William died in Mississippi.

Dear Cousins,
Now I would like some input on your part with this: William Burge son or Dury Burge, Charlotte County, Va.
I believe William married Martha Williams in 1784 Ranes Cooke signed as Sur. on William Burges Marriage to Martha and William
Burge signed as sur. on marriage of Ranies to Elizabeth. Ranes Cooke die Charlotte County, Va., 1814
Ranies Cooke
He married 1784, Amelia, Elizabeth Williamson. Only proved child was Lucy, who married 1803 John Townes. Raines died 1814, Charlotte Co, Va.. Other possible issue: John R., Henry Raines Cooke.
In 1799 Richard Burge, brother of William, sold his land he had inherited from his father Drury. William sighned as witness, so William was sill in Charlotte County, at that time.
Henry, Williams other brother also sold what was left of his land in 1799.
April 8, 1797 Deed Book 8 Page 21
Henry Burge of Halifax County to Edmund F. Patrick of Charlotte 33 and one half Acres (part of his inheritance from Drury Burge)
Price 67 Dollars Wit. J. Scott, Thomas W. Dearman, Valentine Tublet, Thomas Oliver, William H. Hunt.
Recorded July 3, 1797
August 5, 1799 Deed Book 8 Page 193 Charlotte County, Va. Henry Burge and wife Polly of Halifax County, to Edmund Fitz Patrick of
Charlotte County , 78 and one half acres (tract of land on the waters of Wallace's Creek) being the blance of 112 acres left him by Drury Burge.
Price 58 Pounds seven Shillings and 5 pence. Wit. John Patrick, William Gaines, James Brent, William Sims
Recorded Sept. 2, 1799.
Mary Burge their sister married Joseh Faqua, in 1783.
In 1813 Richard and William are on the tax rolls of Wilkinson County Ms. along with their inlaws the Fuquas..
In 1817 William signed petition for Nathaniel Burge to marry.
Now I submit to you that William son of Drury Burge could not be the William urge that married Rachael Hall.
Please give me your thoughts.
Nancy
