Hi,
Some thoughts on Christopher Burge who was my gggf:

1. I have seen Talithia mentioned as Elizabeth Telithia Stockstill. Please clarify this for me. How did we come up with Elizabeth? Her sister was Mary Elizabeth Stockstill that married George Washington Burge in 1822. Was there two Elizabeth's in this family? One of Telithia's children was named Elizabeth. Telithia died prior to 1850, perhaps La.

2. Christopher died circ 1858. He, and his brother George applied for their "Bounty Land" in 1858 at Newton County, Texas. He was alive in 1858 but don't show up on the 1860 census. He most probably died within that time frame. He is buried in a small plot South of Merryville, La. together with his son and daughter-in-law, Henderson Christopher and Soloma Slaydon Burge. Other folk most likely buried there as the little plot was mostly forgotten till the WPA come thru and put stones on the graves that they could verify.

5. Do we know for sure who Christopher and George's parents were? Lots of speculation about that few years ago. Confusion may have come from Mr. Burks back in the fifties that said he remembered Christopher as being the son of Thomas Burge. That is true, Thomas did have a son named Christopher. That also has been documented by the Mormons.
Thanks.

A. Dianne Burge Fogelman: Born June 25, 1823; died June 25, 1940. He married Soloma Slaydon. Both died young -- around 1866 -- leaving their children orphans. They had seven children B (1) Andrew Thomas Burge; (2) Mary Louise Burge; (3) David Franklin Burge; (4) John J. Burge; (5) Henderson Christopher Burge; (6) Telitha Caroline Burge; and (7) Charlie Burge:

Note 2: Donnie Todd

Family folklore has Henderson and his wife Salomi being killed by jayhawkers sometime in 1866. I don't know if the is a fact or fiction. they are buried south of Merryville (Beaugard Parish) behind Ole Wade Cooley Homestead.

Andrew -- along with his sister, Louise, evidently raised their younger brothers and sisters as the 1870 census of Calcaieu Parrish, Louisiana, shows Andrew as head of the household, age 22, with Louise, age 17 (BA 1853); David, age 15 (BA 1855); John, age 10 (BA 1860); Henderson C., age 9 (BA 1861); Caroline, age 6 (BA 1864); and Charles, age 4 (BA 1866).

I'm looking for info on Andrew Thomas Burge. He first married my gg grandmother, Martha Matilda McMahon in Newton County, Texas. They had Elizabeth Burge Jan 1880 in Texas. They divorced and he then married Lucinda Jane Smith and had a daughter Josephine. I have not been able to find out anything about Elizabeth Burge, my great grandmother's half sister. No one in our family knew she existed, until I found her. On the 1900 census, Martha Matilda says she has 4 children and 4 are living, so I have to assume she is still living somewhere, but she is not listed with Martha Matilda and the other 3 children and she is not listed with her father, Andrew Thomas Burge. Thanks for looking. Kay Parker McCary

Thank you so much for your reply. I did find that Andrew had married second Lucinda Jane Smith b Oct 1839 in La.. On the 1900 Calcacieu Census they had a daughter Josephine b Feb 1882 in La.. Thanks for the additonal info on Andrew. Maybe I'll eventually find what happened to Elizabeth Burge. She is listed with her Mother and they are living with Martha's sister, America, their father and America's father in law. Thanks again. Kay
