Rainwater Robert [Male] b. ABT 1669 North Carolina
The earliest record anyone has found thus far of a Rainwater in America is the listing of Robert Rainwater among those indentured to John Hurt of Virginia in 1706. This mention, combined with the proximity of Virginia to the North Carolina counties where the Rainwaters eventually settled, have caused many of us to suppose that Robert is the father of John and William Rainwater. Unfortunately, the documentary evidence needed prove this claim has not yet been found. While it’s likely that Robert is the progenitor of the English Rainwater line, it remains a speculation.
May 2, 1706, Land Patent issued to John Hurt, King William Co., VA, 2 May 1706: Colonist John Hurt received a patent on 546 acres of land in King William Co., VA along the Pamunkey Neck of the Mattopony River under the importation, or head, right laws. 50 acres of land could be claimed upon presentation of proof of paying the transportation costs of an individual into the colony. John Hurt paid the way of 11 colonists. Among these indentured servants was Robert Rainwater. The transportation costs for a single colonist was approximately 6 pounds Sterling.
1713, Surry Co., VA Court Records, Vol. VII, 1712-1718: Surry County, Virgina court records a payment of 400 lbs of tobacco to Robert Rainwater for two wolf's heads.

No information about the nature of the suit against Mr. Pace is given.
1718, Surry Co., VA Court Records, Vol. VII, 1712-1718: Surry County, Virgina court records that the case between Robert Rainwater and Richard Pace is postponed until the next session of the court.
