Confederate State of America, 53rd Alabama Partisan Rangers, Company C, Colonel Moses Hannon Brigade." Walt" enlisted in the Confederate army on August 6, 1862 at Buckyville Alabama. Present on the rolls through March 7, 1864. He is Listed as a private and occupation in military as teamster. Surrendered at South Carolina at end of war. He moved to north Louisiana with his brother Andrew Jackson Pevy in 1866. Walter moved to Webster Parish and Andrew to Jackson Parish. On military records Walter spelled his name Peavy. His address is listed on widow application as Jefferson Community, Webster Parish, (population in 1901 was 250), which was located about seven miles north of Minden which in now Kisatchie National Forest. The postmaster of Jefferson was Oliver E. Horton. The post office operated from 1901 to 1911. His name is spelled Pevy on the 1880 and 1900 Webster Parish census and on his grave marker. Buried in Crow cemetery about one mile past pine grove methodist church on hwy. 159. His cause of death listed on widows application for confederate pension was "died suddenly of sunstroke or apoplexy".
Born in Georgia and moved to Alabama and bought property from the government September 4, 1834 in Coosa county Alabama. Was said that he raised a variety of crops and fine horses on his plantation.
The name Pavey was changed to Peavy at this time.
