The 1901 Privelege Tax Rolls for Marion County, Misissippi, 2nd district shows
Rouse Brothers Saw Milling paying $2.50 and $12.50. Chalmers and Talula Rouse
are buried in the Slade Cemetary, Lamar County, Mississippi.
Talula told her Grandson, Charles Rouse, that when she came with her family
from Georgia to Mississippi that the first person that she saw was Chalmers Rouse.
She thought Chalmers Rouse was the ugliest man she had ever seen. He must have
been a chalmer, because they later married.
This is a letter written by Talula: Letter from Talula, from Lumberton, MS 20 May 1930.
Dearest Deola and Harvey, It was so sweet of you to send me the nice box of Candy. I enjoyed it. I got five boxes. Irene and Charlie were here. Frank and Wilhelmina went by for them. We wanted you so much. We had a good dinner. Wilhelmina is home this week. She is doing wome sewing. Deola what are you with yourself? I do wish you could come to see me. Etha May has been home two weeks. I am expecting her soon. We are having lots of rain here now. We surely did need it. Papa is late with his farming and we haven't much garden. How are you getting on with work. Do they stop for rain? Arthur and Eldon must be real busy they never write to us. I had a letter from Aunt Flora. She wants us to have our reunion this summer.
(This must be Flora Elizabeth Garrison, born 1874 who lived in Seminary, Mississippi,
who married a Mr. Cranford). I hope we can and everone could be there. Many Thanks for the candy. You all write to us soon.
Heaps of Love
Mama
