Hiram Franklin proprieter of the Davis Hotel (1893) and Lester Hotel. Lester burned May 1893. Hiram moved into Roundtree Hotel, became known as the Franklin House in Statesboro, Georgia.

On gravestone: Alice Mae Franklin. Alice signed her will Alice " May" Spiers
Epitaph:
eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord.
Called her husband "Mr. Spiers"
The Franklins did not approve of Mr. Spiers and did not condone the marriage. I've been told that there was no wedding. There is a picture of the newly weds however.

Papa lived in Summerton, South Carolina or Albemarle, North Carolina. He used to fish on Chowan River, North Carolina. Albemarle is next to the River and he was raised on the Chowan River. One of Papa's brothers was chief of police in Suffolk, Virginia.
