Virgil was blown to pieces while unloading cans of nitroglycerin in one
enormous explosion. Theory was that, after unloading the final full can, he
may have dropped an empty or a full can onto those already unloaded.
Since the cans had been carried up to a higher level above that of the team
of horses, only one horse was injured with no damage done to the wagon.
As result, only a momument marks a tribute to Virgil, for there were no
remains left to be buried. Worked for Guffey Oil Company.
