James paid someone to take his place in the Civil War because he had a farm
to run and not a lot of help.
One of Viura's nephews lived in Canton. Arlene Bassford remembers visiting
him with Vilura and Ruby Marlin(Bassford). Lived 2 1/2 miles East of
Torrington for 33 years. Died of a myocardial infarction. In 1896 she lived
in Bloomfield Low,Mitchell,Ks.. Had a fourth grade education.
