In the 1900 census, Mariah was listed as a 59 yr old widow farmer living in beat 5, having had 14 children with 13 living. Living with her at the time were 4 of her children, Annie, Joel, Leonard, and Rosa Lee, age 7. Rosa Lee must have been adopted. Mariah died in 1901 and Rosa Lee was shown in the 1910 census as living with Mariah's son Jim Spiers and Family.

In the 1910 census Joseph was listed as a 38 yr old postmaster at the McNeill settlement, living with wife Mary Seabrook age 33, married 6 years, having 3 children; Paul age 5, Bobbie age 4 and Walter age 2. Also Staying with them at the time was Mary's Mother, Nettie Seabrook, age 62.
