In the 1880 Pearl River County, Ms. census, John was listed as a 29 yr old farmer living in beat 2 with his wife Celina Davis age 19 and daughter Nancy age 2.
In the 1900 census John was listed as a 48 yr old farmer living in beat 5 with wife Celina age 40, married 22 yrs, having 8 children, all living. Seven children were living at home.
John's obituary in the Poplarville, Ms. Free Press, 6/5/1902, stated 'Died at his home near McNeill on 5/31/1902, John J. Spiers age 58 years 8 months and 9 days was the victim of typhoid fever and was confined to his bed 44 days. He leaves a wife, 9 children and an aged mother besides numerous friends to mourn his death'. At the time of his death Caroline was pregnant with John's 10th child John Jackson Spiers, Jr. "Johnnie".[Strahan Family Reunion .FTW]

In the 1900 census Tom was listed as a 50 yr old farmer living in beat 5 with his wife Nancy age 44, married 24 yrs, having 9 children with 7 living. 2 children were living at home.
In the 1910 census of Pearl River County, Ms. Tom was listed as a 62 yr old farmer, owning his own farm, living in beat 4 with his wife Elizabeth age 57, married 39 yrs, having 9 children with 7 living. Two children were living at home, Rufus age 16, helping on the faarm, and Alzada, age 13. Toms sonsa William Jefferson and Leon Solomon lived nearby.[Strahan Family Reunion .FTW]
