Thomas and Josie Spiers
Thomas and Josie Spiers and Family
In the 1920 census, Pearl River County, Ms. Tom was listed as a 37 yr old farmer living in beat 3, White Sand precinct, near the old White Sand School with his wife Josie Jarrell age 27 and 5 children, Bertha age 15, Gladys age 12, Virgie age 10, Velma age 8 and Overtis age 6. Tom Spiers was sometimes called The Tomato Man because he sold tomatoes from the back of his truck. At one time Tom and his wife Josie ran the old folks home called the 'poor house' which was located behind the National Guard armory. His last home was on the Henry Howard farm, husband to Tom's daughter Gladys.
