Ballew Sleeta Ann [Female] b. 12 DEC 1904 Lawrence County, Mississippi - d. OCT 1991 Franklinton, Washington Parish, Louisiana
When most of Sleeta's grandchildren think of her they remember her delicious pies that she baked every Sunday afternoon. She would not only make just one, but most of the time you could find several of her juicy pies lined up and down the dinner table.
Another trait that she was well known for was her talent for growing beautiful trees and flowers. She had her yard full of plants and shrubs that she carefully monitored and cared for. You could ask her the type of most any plant and she would be able to give you the name of it before you could even finish your sentence.
Overall she was an excellant woman who deserved all of the love that she was given from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
John Loten Stewart owned and operated a store in Wanilla, Mississippi. His business was quite successful in it's trade, most likely due to his store being located right next to the railroad stop. Passengers from the trains, as well as their engineers, would visit John's store and purchase their supplies.
The reason John went to Wanilla to open his own business is not quite certain. Although it is understood that this is where he met his future bride; Sleeta Ann Ballew.
He may have noticed Sleeta when she visited his store, or he may have seen her at Wanilla Baptist Church, which was just across the railroad tracks from his business.
However they met, they were soon married and enjoyed several years together as well as five children.

George Holmes was brutally murdered. The story has it that he was supposed to serve as a witness in a court case, those that were involved in the case wanted to keep him quiet. George was heading home one day and decided to take a shorter route through someone's field. As he was traveling in this field, someone (possibly the individual who was involved in the same case as George was) spotted him crossing the field. A few hours later, George's body was found dead as a result of murder. No one was ever charged for this crime.
