In the 1910 Pearl River County, Ms. census, Jackson was listed as a 25 yr old farm laborer living in beat 5 with his wife Maggie age 19, married 4 yrs, having 2 children.
After Maggie died he ran an ad in the Market bulletin in Collins, Ms. for a housekeeper. He hired Lola Mae Moss and after two weeks they got married.
At age 16 Bessie went to her step sister Myrtie's in Ceasar, then went to Mobile, Al. for nurses' training at old infirmary run by the nuns. The nuns first called her Baby then later she became Babe. After Bessie's mother Sarah died Bessie was raised by her step brother, Jack Jarrel and wife Maggie Spiers.
