This information is put together in speculation right now, October 1994,
for these reasons; there are two men with daughters the age of Susan,
this William or Nathanial Hawthorne who is in Decatur County, Georgia in
1840. For Jesse and Susan to meet ,their fathers would have to live near
each other. The problem is that Shadrick was in Baker County, Georgia
near Nathanial in Decatur before 1830 and back up to Marion County,
Georgia where William was after 1830, and this was the time that Jesse
and Susan married. I am going with William because Jesse and Susan are in
Marion County and because William is used in the family naming and
Nathanial isn't, and it would seem likely that Susan would name a son for
her father. Their family has a Shadrick and a William. I have placed
Nancy as a daughter because she is also in Marion County in 1850 with
Joseph, Marion, and Malinda Hathorn, and she is the age of one of
William's daughters. Because members of two families would marry each
other , and Malinda married a Wall, this has added more weight this way.
There is and Elizabeth Hathorn living without a husband in 1850, she
might be William's wife. Jesse and Susan name their first daughter Mary
Elizabeth, but that could also be for Jesse's mother. Another point is
that the Walls and Hathorns were together in Twiggs County. William and
Nathanial could also be related. The name is spelled Hawthorn , Hathorn,
Hawthorne, Hathhorn.

In H/H of Bartlett Peaden 1850 census. Son of an unidentified sea captain who deserted Louisa. John was taken from Louisa by Bartlett Peaden, her father, who raised John as his own. Supposedly Louisa was bitter at her father over this. Louisa was a student of penmenship from Frank Spence, they married and eventually moved to Ms. This story is supposedly from Louisa herself, told by Carl Spiers (DIXIE1@@webtv.net).
