Notes for MARY PRUDENCE LADNER:
1995 - Mary was named Mississippi's top PTA volunteer and presented with the Oak Leaf Award. She recieved a standing ovation at the PTA's annual convention in Jackson. The application submitted by the Poplarville PTA chapter said: "Mrs. Mary Strahan in an exceptional 80-year-old grandmother who has been an active supporter of PTA and education for many years. She has made significant contributions to the welfare of our children by giving generously of her time, talent, and expertise, to projects and programs that foster improvement in our schools and community......... Under her guiding influence, tennis courts were constructed at our high school. Poplarville Junior-Senior High School is one of the few public schools in the state to have lighted tennis courts. She helped secure funding and materials to build a concession stand on the football field. She led the grandparent drive to secure funds for ceiling fans in the lower elementary school auditorium. She helps seucre scholarships for needy students and she solicits private donations to fund school projects for special students."

"Mrs. Strahan is an active participant in all phases of the community. She serves as a Sunday School Teacher at Olive Baptist Church and sings in the choir. She is a member of the Eastern Star and a past 4-H Leader. She is a volunteer worker with the Pearl River community College Alumni Foundation. She helped organize the Poplarville High School Alumni Foundation. In 1993, Mrs. Strahan was named Poplarville Citizen of the Year."
