HINTON
He was born Dec. 4. 1943, in Detroit, to the late Ronald W. and Ethel Mae Heinlein Hinton Summers, He came to Warren to live as a small child.
Ron was the owner/operator of Penn Ohio Produce (Mahon-ing Avenue fruit stand) for more than 35 years. He retired in June 2003, because of his ALS.
Ron was known as "the Watermelon Man." His white Panama hats, white dress shirts and blue jeans were his trademarks. He traveled extensively to bring quality produce home to his customers. Upon his retirement, his dream was to live in Key West, Fla. For years, he had searched for the just the right home.
Ron's belief and optimism that they would find a cure for ALS touched all who knew and loved him. Ron was so brave and strong, he never gave up. He was an extremely generous and loving husband, father and papa.
He admired and adored his stepson. Bob; his beloved grandchildren, Logan, Lukas and Livia were his joys. He talked endlessly about them and their antics. Every night before he would go to sleep, he would look at their pictures and smile. One of the greatest gifts he was able to give them during his last days was to hold them by his side and tell them each that he loved them.
Ron had a passion for life. He traveled to the United States and Canada with determination. He had visited every casino from Las Vegas to Atlantic City, most many times over. He
adjusted his passions to the progression of his disease, enjoy- ; ing every day to the fullest, Whether it was directions-te some remote town, closing day statistics on the stock exchange or the leading driver in ' NASCAR, Ron had the answer. His high IQ was sometimes frightening.
Ron is deeply missed by his wife, Connie Walker Rhodes Hinton, whom he married, Dec. 5 in Las Vegas. He also leaves behind his loving stepson, Bob Rhodes II and wife, Julie, of Southington; his three grandchildren; and a brother, Plineth Hinton.
