He died on 6 Apr 1965 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. Services for John (Peg) Stewart, 70, well - known area banker and businessman who died yesterday in Memorial Hospital, will be conducted Friday at 2:30 p. m. at the Durst Funeral Home in Frostburg. Rev. J. Harold Wowen, of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity of Newport, Pa., will officiate and interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Alvin Kreiling, Ralph M. Race, Merle Zembower, Jack Dillon, Robert Lee, Lewis Harris, Noel Speir Cook, Arthur Irvin and James Nelson. Mr. Stewart, who resided at 39 South Water Street, Frostburg, had been in failing health the past year and was admitted to the hospital shortly after midnight Monday. A vice president and director of the Fidelity Bank, Frostburg, he also was president of the Tri-State Mine and Mill Supply Company, Cumberland; Market Buildings, Inc.; Merchandise Mart, Inc.; Mountaineer Corp.; Emca Co.; Kitchens-Stewart Realty Co.; and the Kitchens Realty Co., Frostburg. Mr. Stewart also served as director of Frostburg Memorial Park, and was a member of Mountain Lodge 99 AF and AM, Frostburg; Ali Ghan Shrine and Consistory of Cumberland, and Frostburg BPO Elks Lodge 470. A native of Frostburg, he was a son of the late James and Jane (Price) Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Speir) Stewart, and two brothers, Price and Robert Stewart, both of Hagerstown. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Cumberland Evening Times, April 7, 1965
Note from Dottie Stumbaugh:While visiting the Frostburg area in 1959, my grandfather took me to meet Uncle Peg!!!! When I asked why his name was Peg (same as my mom, Margaret who was called Peg) I was told that it is a masculine or feminine Scottish
