Mildred Storer will celebrate 90th birthday CUMBERLAND Mildred "Millie" Storer, a former area business owner, will mark her 90th birthday Tuesday. Storer and her husband, Galen, operated Storer Brothers Inc., on Virginia Avenue. Newspaper carriers from the Times-News regularly frequented the store while waiting for the delivery truck to Virginia Avenue Storer is a Navy veteran and served during World War II. Storer enlisted in the Navy on April 2, 1943. She was discharged on Sept. 28, 1945, as a pharmacist's mate 1 st class. Storer is currently a resident at New Hope. She stated that her greatest enjoyment comes from visits with family and friends, reading, attending church functions and various club meetings, and playing with her great-granddaughter, Victoria "Tori" Witt. Storer will spend her birthday quietly, enjoying cake and ice cream with her family, daughter Gayle and son-in-law John Yost; grandson Bobby Witt and wife Tricia, and great-grandchildren Tori Witt and Logan O'Brien; and granddaughter Bethany Witt. She died on 28 Feb 2004 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., Maryland. Obituaries MILDRED V STORER CUMBERLAND Mrs. Mildred Virginia Storer, 90 of Cumberland, died Saturday, Feb. 28,2004, at her residence. She was born on March 11, 1913 in Cumberland, the daughter of the late John I. and Frances (Martin) Vandegrift. She was preceded in death by her husband, Galen E. Storer on Oct. 13, 1983. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar Vandegrift, William A. Vandegrift, John F. Vandegrift and Carl S. Vandegrift. Mrs. Storer was a member of the First Baptist Church and attended the Cresaptown United Methodist Church and the Trinity Assembly of God Church with her daughter. Mrs. Storer was a Navy Veteran of World War II and retired from Storer Brothers Inc. as the Secretary/Treasurer. She was a 1930 graduate of Allegany High School, attended West Hampton College, the University of Richmond, was a member of the Cumberland Chapter 56 O.E.S., the Ladies Shrine, the Womens Sport Club, Civic Club, the Y.M.C.A. Auxiliary and she was active in many community activities. Surviving is a daughter, Gayle S. Yost and her husband John of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Bethany Witt of Hagerstown and Robert Witt and his wife Tricia of Cumberland; two great-grandchildren, Tori Witt and Logan OBrien. Also surviving is a sister, Dorothy Fleming of Newport, N.C.; Steve and Linda Snoots and staff at New Hope had become her extended family. Per her request, her body has been cremated and private family graveside services will be conducted at Rose Hill Cemetery, Cumberland, with the Rev. Harold R. McClav Jr. and the Rev. Jerry and Rebecca Wagner officiating. Hafer Funeral Service, P.A., Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Highway, La Vale is handling the arrangements.
