Miss Jessie S. Spier, one of the older of Cumberland's registered nurses, died suddenly yesterday afternoon at her home, 211 Washington Street. She had been in ill health for about two years. A native of Cumberland, Miss Spier was a daughter of the late Andrew and Marion Steward Spier. She had lived in Cumberland all her life and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and its Women's Association. Surviving are two sisters, Miss Anna Spier, with whom she lived, and a brother, Allan B, Spier of 303 Schley Street. She was a sister of the late Mrs. John J. Bell, Baltimore, and Mr. Bell was a visitor at the Spier home when Miss Spier died. The Cumberland Evening Times, August 26, 1941
