He died on 7 Dec 2005 in Washington, Washington Co., Pennsylvania. Washington, Pa. - Lawrence D. "Bud" Keirs, 82, of Washington, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, in the Donnell House following a two-month illness. He was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Washington, a son of John "Mose" and Mary Dicks Keirs. During World War II he served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps in the Central Pacific and earned three Bronze service stars. Mr. Keirs was a retired crane operator, having worked at Universal Cyclops for 33 years. He enjoyed country music, woodworking and making ceramics, as well as cooking and sewing. Mr. Keirs was a member of American Legion Post 175 for over 50 years. He was a former member of the Broad St. Baptist Church and Moose Lodge 22. On Dec. 13, 1958, he was married to Naomi L. Garrett Keirs, who survives. Also surviving is a son, David A. Keirs, and a step son, Albert Perts, both of Washington; a step daughter, Sandra Lee Nelson, of Fredericksburg, Va.; a brother, Allan "Bunk" Keirs, of Washington; three grandchildren, Austin Keirs, Raymond Nelson and Kelly Leach. Deceased are a brother, John Keirs; and three sisters, Ruth Martin, Frances Mandich and Margaret Gloady. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the HUMMELL and BARNHILL MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 350 West Chestnut St., Washington, a member of Covered Bridge Independents, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, with John Wright, minister, Church of Christ, officiating. Military Honors will be offered at the funeral home by American Legion Post 175. Private burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. In a note from Susan House - Sheryl-1 got this off a link from Ancestry. One piece is wrong - his mother was Mary Frances Kopp, not Mary Dicks. Wonder who wrote the obit? Allan "Bub" Keirs was the son of Clarice Dicks. Lawrence & Allan were 1st cousins. July 11,2007
