Mr. Frederick Udy, one of the most well known and respected citizens of South Cumberland, died this morning at six o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Speir, on Virginia Avenue. Mr. Udy was an Englishman by birth and came to this country in the year 1846 at the age of twenty-eight, and settled in Pennsylvania, afterwards moving to Piedmont, W.Va., and then to Lonaconing, where he was engaged in mining. He was in Lonaconing until four years ago, when he moved to South Cumberland to live with his daughter, living a retired life. He would have been 74 years of age on his next birthday which would have been on the third of next month. He is survived by the following children, four daughters and three sons: Mrs. Rosenberg of Davis, W. Va.; Mrs. Mary Reeves, of Weaver, W. Va.; Mrs. Speir, of South Cumberland; Mrs. William Rodda, Frostburg; Mr. Thomas Udy, Lonaconing; Fred and John Udy, Lonaconing. He was a member of Grace M. E. Church in South Cumberland, and had been for the past four years, altogether being a member of the Methodist church for over forty years. His remains will be sent to Lonaconing tomorrow evening to the home of his son Thomas Udy and will be buried Monday. The Evening Times, Cumberland, October 6, 1906
