Capitan John Jones' company, Colonel Peter Grubbs' battalion, Lancaster County Association. Earned some renown as a fine Clock maker, also a farmer, innkeeper, and mechanic. They lived for a while in Ephrata Area and an area called Cocalico where he built the house at Vine and West Sunset Avenue, which was the former Menno Hess home, and in 1777 built the home at Oak and West Main Streets, which at one time was known as the Village Inn.

It is believed he produced about 150 clocks, some signed with an Ephrata location, some with nearby Hinkletown, probably as a result of his purchase of a tract of land there in 1767. Many of his eight day clocks are still running and drawing high prices in recent auctions.
