Hite Christopher [Male] b. 03 APR 1851 - d. 05 JAN 1929
He was married in Winston-Salem, N.C. The story is told that he sold
liquor and tobacco from a wagon without paying the taxes. He was a
close friend of R.J. Reynolds, the tobacco king. The story is told that he
left Winston-Salem in a hurry because the revenuers were after him. It
is said that his wife Rosa Tesh rode shotgun as they traveled back to
Halifax. He was later a horse trader and sold CC Hite's Horsepowder. The
story is told that when Grandma Rosa Tesh asked Grandpa Chris which
way they were to travel he just let a stick fall on the ground and looking
at the direction of the stick said, "That way".
